Everything you need to introduce me

Organisers ask me for the same five things by email every time. This page hands them over without an exchange of messages: three bios, the details people retype, talk abstracts, and a CV that generates itself from my record.

Bios

Three lengths, all third person, because that is how a bio gets pasted into a programme. The facts in them are generated from the same record as the rest of this site, so they do not go stale. The sentences are drafted and mine to edit.

Dr. S. Sangeetha is Associate Professor, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. An artificial intelligence and privacy researcher with eighteen years of teaching, she has published 30 papers on differential privacy, privacy-preserving machine learning and applied AI.

Medium 113 words

Dr. S. Sangeetha is Associate Professor, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Her doctorate, completed at PSG College of Technology in 2022, asked how a recommender system can learn what someone likes without learning who they are, and her 30 papers run from association-rule hiding through differential privacy, federated learning for healthcare, and location privacy on distributed ledgers. She is a recognised research supervisor with Anna University, Chennai, and Faculty Coordinator of the ACM Student Chapter at PSG iTech. She has taught for eighteen years across four institutions, and her applied work is done with undergraduate teams who are credited as authors.

Long 293 words

Dr. S. Sangeetha is Associate Professor, Artificial Intelligence & Data Science at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, where she works on privacy in machine learning systems.

She began teaching in 2008 at PSG Polytechnic College and has taught for eighteen years across four institutions, taking a Master of Engineering in 2015 and a doctorate in Information and Communication Engineering in 2022, both from PSG College of Technology, while carrying a full teaching load. Her thesis addressed a problem that sits awkwardly at the centre of modern recommendation: a recommendation is a statement about one person, so the noise that protects that person is the noise that degrades the recommendation. Her work measures that trade-off rather than assuming it away.

Her 30 publications span five threads — differential privacy and private recommenders, federated and differentially private methods for healthcare data, location privacy and distributed ledgers, applied computer vision and language work with student teams, and the data-mining foundations the field was built on. The survey of big-data privacy she wrote for a Springer handbook remains her most cited work. Her papers have been cited 110 times, for an h-index of 5.

She is a recognised research supervisor with Anna University, Chennai, recognition number 4040073, and Faculty Coordinator of the ACM Student Chapter at PSG iTech. She speaks regularly to student audiences on digital footprints and privacy, most recently to eight hundred students in January 2026, and co-leads an ACM COMPUTE 2026 working group on how Indian computing students handle refutation problems. Her applied research is conducted with undergraduate teams, who appear as authors on the resulting papers; one such project, on real-time infection detection in oyster mushroom cultivation, won a best paper award and released its dataset openly.

Curriculum vitae

A full CV, generated from the publication and profile record and therefore current as of 2026-09-10: 30 publications grouped by type, positions, education, funded work, awards, service and continuing study. Print it or save it to PDF and the site furniture drops away.

Talk abstracts

What I can speak about, with the audience and length each suits. The two marked as given are sessions I have delivered; the rest are drafted from my research and teaching and are mine to confirm.

Your data, your privacy: understanding digital footprints

What a phone, a search box and a loyalty card actually record, why removing your name from a dataset does not make it anonymous, and what a student can do about it. No mathematics assumed.

Given before
Undergraduates and school students, any discipline
60 minutes, with questions

RAG, vector databases and semantic search

How retrieval-augmented generation works end to end: embeddings, a vector store, the retrieval step, and where the failures actually come from. Built for faculty who need to teach it next term.

Given before
Faculty development programmes, postgraduate students
Half day, hands-on

Differential privacy, from the Netflix Prize to the census

The de-anonymisation results that broke the old approach, the guarantee that replaced it, and what it cost when the United States Census adopted it. The lecture version of my doctoral work.

Proposed, not yet given
Computer science students and researchers
45 to 60 minutes

Privacy by design in a machine learning pipeline

Where privacy is won and lost in a real system: collection, training, model release, deployment. Aimed at people who are building something now and have to make these decisions this month.

Proposed, not yet given
Engineering faculty, industry teams, project students
45 to 90 minutes, or a workshop

Responsible AI for engineering students

Fairness, interpretability and accountability as engineering constraints rather than ethics slides — what to measure, and what to do when the measurement comes back badly.

Proposed, not yet given
Undergraduate and postgraduate students
45 minutes

The full record of sessions and the standing roles behind them are on talks and events.

Photograph

There is no photograph here to give you, and I would rather say so than hand over something that prints badly. The only image on the record is the faculty page thumbnail (160x183 px, low resolution), which is too small for print or for a conference programme.

If you need one now, write to sangeetha@psgitech.ac.in and I will send the best I have.

Terms

Use any of the text on this page as it stands, or cut it to fit. If you edit a bio down, please keep the affiliation — Dr. S. Sangeetha at PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research — since that is the part institutions check.

For anything not covered here, including interviews and comment, sangeetha@psgitech.ac.in reaches me directly.
